Sustainability

Our investment program is implemented with a particular emphasis on maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
We promote conservation farming practices. We emphasize limited tillage, use of organic fertiliser and sugarcane trash residue retention.
To reduce our carbon footprint, we have a tree planting program. To date, we have planted over 550 acres of private forest estate. Our forestry program is already positively impacting the environment, by restoring forest cover and contributing to carbon sequestration.
Our investment in renewable energy through bagasse-to-power electricity co-generation is a viable alternative to forest and biomass degradation for fuel.
Ethanol manufacturing at our industrial complex at Masindi Agricultural Park will support the implementation of the evolving national policy on the blending of fuel, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Our investment project has created 800+ farm jobs and spurred the growth of small businesses around our nucleus estate. The project will continue to put more people to work and support the livelihoods of Ugandans.

With our upcoming outgrower scheme, Muhazi Heritage is creating and promoting opportunities for cane cultivation in the remote areas within a radius of 40km from Masindi Agricultural Park. This is poised to offer private farmers the prospect of creating sustainable livelihoods for themselves and employment for others. We approach new cane field development in an inclusive manner and share value in our supply chain to bring mutual benefit to both business and the host communities.
Our partnership with local farmers, transporters, contractors and other small, medium and micro-sized enterprises in the supply chain has brought about multiplied socio-economic benefits to our host communities in Masindi, Hoima and Kiryandongo.
